High-frequency ultrasound helps practitioners assess facial anatomy, vessels and filler deposits. This integrated programme also teaches prevention, recognition and management of injectable complications and medical emergencies. Ultrasound supports clinical decision-making but does not replace established emergency protocols.
Ultrasound is an additional clinical tool. It supports decision-making but does not eliminate the risks of injectable procedures or replace clinical judgement and established emergency protocols.

What You Will Learn
The course is built around six modules, moving from ultrasound fundamentals to supervised clinical application.

Fundamentals of facial ultrasound
Ultrasound physics and image formation, high-frequency probe selection, B-mode imaging, image optimisation, the ALARA safety principle and clinical documentation.

Facial anatomy and vascular mapping
Facial soft-tissue layers, arteries and veins, colour Doppler assessment, danger zones, anatomical variation and applying findings to treatment planning.

Dermal filler identification
Ultrasound appearances of hyaluronic acid filler, assessing distribution and depth, suspected migration, relevant soft-tissue abnormalities and the limits of interpretation.

Recognition and assessment of complications
Clinical assessment of suspected filler complications, ultrasound findings in suspected vascular compromise, when to escalate urgently, documentation and follow-up.

Ultrasound-guided hyaluronidase injection
Localising target filler deposits, indications and limitations of hyaluronidase, needle visualisation and positioning, infection prevention, adverse reactions and post-treatment review.

Supervised hands-on scanning
Probe handling, image optimisation, identifying facial structures, colour Doppler, recognising filler and practising guided techniques within your professional scope.
Clinical safety
Suspected vascular occlusion is a clinical emergency. Assessment and treatment must not be delayed while arranging ultrasound.
Complications Prevention & Emergency Management
The course also covers clinical prevention, early recognition and escalation of complications following injectable treatments. Training includes structured emergency scenarios and documentation, referral and reporting responsibilities.
Vascular occlusion and hyaluronidase
Recognise suspected vascular compromise, initiate the emergency response, and understand hyaluronidase use and escalation.
Anaphylaxis and acute emergencies
ABCDE assessment, recognition of anaphylaxis, adrenaline and immediate emergency response.
Early and delayed complications
Infection, inflammation, nodules, suspected biofilm and appropriate follow-up.
Botulinum toxin complications
Recognise unwanted effects, assess severity and plan appropriate management.
Documentation and referral
Consent, incident records, urgent referral, patient follow-up and reporting.
Practical Training and Assessment
You scan consenting patients under faculty supervision, building your skills step by step from basic image acquisition to vessel mapping, filler identification and guided technique. Practical procedures are only undertaken where clinically appropriate, with consent and supervision.

Online pre-study
A learning pack and presentation covering ultrasound physics, facial vascular anatomy, ALARA and complication management, completed before the practical.

Written assessment
A multiple-choice paper completed after your pre-study and before the practical.

Practical sign-off
Supervised scanning at Harley Street, with a faculty-signed record of the practical skills you were assessed on.

Your certificate and CPD
This combined programme is CPD certified by The CPD Certification Service (Certificate No. 76409, July 2026). The certificate recognises the approved educational activity. Completion and practical assessment do not by themselves confer a regulated qualification or authorise procedures outside your professional scope, prescribing arrangements or insurance cover.
Do I need previous ultrasound experience?
No. The course starts with ultrasound physics and basic scanning. You do need to be a registered practitioner who already injects.
Will I scan real patients?
Yes. You scan consenting patients under faculty supervision during the practical.
Will I learn ultrasound-guided hyaluronidase injection?
Yes. The course includes supervised training in ultrasound-guided hyaluronidase technique. Hands-on participation depends on clinical suitability, your professional scope and your prescribing and medicines arrangements.
Can nurses attend?
Yes. Registered nurses who meet the entry requirements may attend. Participation in guided injection depends on competence, scope of practice, prescribing arrangements and insurance.
Can ultrasound prevent vascular occlusion?
No technique can guarantee that. Ultrasound supports vascular assessment and treatment planning, and helps you assess suspected complications, but it does not replace clinical judgement or emergency protocols.
Who teaches the course?
Dr Philippe Hamida-Pisal, Dr Jihyun Byun and radiologist Dr Assia Benyamina, with content aligned to the BMUS Guidelines 2023.
