If It Was Not Written Down, It Did Not Happen
The most common cause of a successful complaint against an aesthetic practitioner is not a poor clinical outcome. It is poor documentation. Your records are your clinical memory, your legal defence and your professional signature — and they are the one thing you can put right today, at your desk, for the cost of an hour.
“
A regulator does not see your skill. They see your record. Those are not the same thing, and only one of them is in your control after the fact.

How the Course Works
This course is delivered entirely online. There is no practical component and
no attendance at any premises is required at any stage
. You work through the learning pack at your own pace, complete the assessment, and email your answers.
01
Learning pack
Six units: the principles of Good Documentation Practice and ALCOA+; clinical records and consultation notes; GDPR and information governance; adverse events and duty of candour; prescription-only medicine documentation; SOPs and ICH GCP. Approximately 1 hour.
02
Assessment
A 10-question multiple choice paper drawn from all six units. Pass mark 80% (8 out of 10). Emailed to us when you are ready — there is no deadline.
03
Certificate
Your personalised certificate is issued within 5 working days of a passed submission. If you do not pass, you may resubmit after reviewing the pack.
What You Will Learn
✓
The ALCOA+ framework
Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate — plus Complete, Consistent, Enduring, Available
✓
What to record at every consultation
Twelve things, and why a blank space is read as a check that was never performed
✓
Consent as a process
Why the signed form is only evidence that the process happened — and worthless if it did not
✓
UK GDPR and health data
Special category data, lawful basis, Subject Access Requests, and the 72-hour breach rule
✓
Adverse events and duty of candour
Telling the patient, apologising, and why an apology is not an admission of liability
✓
POM documentation
Batch numbers, expiry dates, doses, sites and dilution — and why traceability matters
✓
Photographs
Standardised conditions, no filters, and why marketing use needs separate written consent
✓
Retention periods
How long every record type must be kept, and why the recommended period exceeds the minimum
Correcting an error — the detail people get wrong
A single line through the error, the correction, your initials and the date. The original must remain legible. Never use correction fluid on a clinical record: obscuring an original entry undermines the integrity of the whole document, and it is the first thing a reviewer will notice.
Your Certificate
What it shows
Your name, the course title and date, 1 hour of structured learning, and confirmation you passed the assessment at 80%. Issued within 5 working days of a passed submission.
Under the GMC, GDC, NMC and HCPC, CPD is self-directed and self-declared: you choose learning relevant to your scope of practice, and you record it. Your certificate gives you the evidence to do that. It is a record of training and assessment — it is not a regulated qualification, and it does not by itself establish your ongoing clinical competence.
Who this course is for
Healthcare professionals, aesthetic practitioners, clinic managers, administrative staff and training educators. Because there is no practical component, this course is open more widely than our hands-on training — anyone whose work touches clinical records will find it relevant.
One hour. At your desk. Possibly the best-value hour of the year.
