Successful PRP treatment takes more than injection technique. This course covers the biology and the evidence, blood collection and preparation, patient selection, treatment limitations and procedural safety, and how to combine PRP with other regenerative treatments. Taught by Dr Philippe Hamida-Pisal and our clinical team.
What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
PRP is prepared from the patient’s own blood by controlled centrifugation. The resulting platelet concentrate contains growth factors, including PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF and IGF, that are involved in tissue repair and cellular signalling. Because it is autologous, PRP suits patients looking for regenerative treatment for skin quality or hair thinning.
The evidence
Research suggests benefits for selected patients, most strongly in androgenetic alopecia. Results vary, and the evidence is not equally strong for every indication. The course teaches you to select patients carefully and set realistic expectations.

Further Information and FAQs
CPD Certification
Our course material is CPD Certified by The CPD Certification Service (Member No. 7006). CPD Certification confirms that the course material meets recognised CPD standards and guidelines. It does not confirm the competence of any learner completing the course; competence is assessed by PHP Training Academy against its own assessment criteria. Under the GMC, GDC, NMC and GPhC, CPD is self-directed and self-declared: your certificate gives you the evidence to record it. It is a record of training rather than a regulated qualification.
Do I need to know how to take blood?
Yes, you should be competent in venepuncture. If you are not yet confident, book our Phlebotomy, Cannulation & IV Therapy course before or alongside PRP.
Can nurses and pharmacists attend?
Yes. Registered nurses and pharmacists who meet the entry requirements can attend. Any PRP treatments you perform afterwards must fall within your professional competence and indemnity cover.
Does PRP work for hair loss?
There is evidence that PRP can improve some measures of hair growth in selected patients with androgenetic alopecia. Results vary, and it is not effective for every cause of hair loss. The course covers a scalp protocol for androgenetic alopecia and diffuse thinning, and when to refer.
Is PRP safe?
PRP uses the patient’s own blood, but the procedure still carries risks, including infection, bruising, pain and other adverse reactions. Training, careful preparation and clinical assessment are essential.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
The course explains how the preparation methods differ and what that means in practice, so you can choose the right option for each patient.
Can I combine PRP with other treatments?
Yes. The course covers combining PRP with microneedling, polynucleotides, skin boosters and mesotherapy, and how to sequence them.
Can I offer PRP treatments after the course?
Your certificate is evidence of training. Before treating independently you must also meet the relevant professional, competence, clinical governance and insurance requirements.
How long is the PRP training course?
One full day, 09:00 to 17:00, at 22 Harley Street, London. Groups are a maximum of six delegates, or you can book one-to-one. Your CPD certificate is issued on the day once your practical is signed off.
Is SoMUK membership worth it for this course?
SoMUK members pay £640 instead of £800 for the group course, a saving of £160. Membership costs £150 a year, so this course alone covers it.
